A unique murder mystery fundraising event organised by the St John St Helens & Knowsley Fellowship Branch has raised more than Β£1,000 in support of the charity and the St John Eye Hospitals of Jerusal.
Held at the Masonic Hall in St Helens on 5 September, the event formed part of the Fellowship Branch's celebrations marking its 40th anniversary. A total of 97 people attended an afternoon of entertainment, fundraising activities and community spirit.
Guests worked together in teams to solve "A Fete Worse Than Death", a murder mystery performed by volunteer actors from Southport Little Theatre, while also taking part in fundraising activities including a raffle, stand-up bingo, a coin toss challenge, prize competitions and other stalls throughout the day.
The event programme also featured a welcome from Deputy Lieutenant Dame Elaine Inglesby-Burke DBE DL, His Majesty's Personal Representative, alongside prayers led by Rev. Sally Mason.

We were fortunate enough to attend the 40th anniversary of the St Helens and Knowsley Fellowship murder mystery event this September. Fellowship is an incredibly important part of St John Ambulance, and the celebrations were nothing short of spectacular. Our incredible volunteers planned a murder mystery, which was delivered brilliantly by the Southport Theatre team. We had plenty of fun games on the day, including stand-up bingo and a raffle. We also heard from some of our esteemed guests about the importance of the work we do at St John Ambulance and, particularly, how important Fellowship is to the charity.Β
Alongside this, the event raised over Β£1,200, which will be split between the St Helens and Knowsley Network, to go towards a new life-saving AED, and the Jerusalem Eye Hospital. These causes are equally important and really showcase the dedication of our volunteers and just how widespread St John Ambulanceβs reach is. It was a fabulous event for a great cause, and we were honoured to have played a small part in the day!
Proceeds from the event will support the work of St John Ambulance St Helens Network and the St John Eye Hospitals of Jerusalem, organisations that deliver essential care and support both locally and internationally.
The St John Fellowship is a nationwide network with branches across the country, bringing together people who support the charitable work of the Order of St John. Founded in 1983 and open to anyone aged 18 or over, it helps members stay connected and promotes friendship and wellbeing.
